In a fresh twist to the Alka Lamba attack case, the Delhi Police have registered an FIR against the AAP MLA after CCTV footage emerged showing Lamba ransacking a shop and toppling a billing machine.
According to police, an employee of Shiv Snacks — where Lamba and her associates created a ruckus — is the complainant in the case.
“At the behest of the complainant, Santosh Kumar, we have registered a case against Lamba for ransacking the place and also pushing a police constable… If required, Lamba may be called in for questioning,” said DCP (North) Madhur Verma.
The case has been registered under sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 451 (house-trespass in order to commit offence punishable with imprisonment) and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) of the IPC at Kashmere Gate police Station.
Incidentally, police do not have CCTV footage from the cameras installed outside the shops to ascertain the veracity of the stone-pelting incident.
“Those cameras are not functional. They are still being installed,” said the DCP.
Lamba suffered a minor head injury on Sunday after a stone was pelted at her while she was interacting with homeless people near Kashmere Gate during an anti-drug drive.
She had alleged that the man behind the incident, Jatin, is related to BJP’s Vishwas Nagar MLA O P Sharma, as the shop belonged to him. Police said Jatin is under judicial custody and is currently in Tihar Jail.
One of Lamba’s associates said she had gone inside the shop 15 minutes after the incident, to look for the “culprit” who had hit her on her head.
Lamba also filed a complaint before the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) against Sharma for allegedly threatening her and casting aspersions on her character. In her five-page complaint to the commission, she urged it to take immediate action against Sharma.
In her complaint, Lamba stated that Sharma had accused her of wandering the streets of Kashmere Gate at night. She also said Sharma told reporters that she consumes drugs and that her anti-drug drive was nothing but a “drama”.
Lamba said this is a direct attack on her character. She also said the owners of the sweet shop and the attacker were both related to Sharma. She also alleged that she had been threatened not to go anywhere near the shop or she would “return from there on a stretcher”.
