Air India edged past Sonnet Cricket Club by three wickets in a low scoring semi-final to book their spot in the finals of the ongoing Lala Raghubir Singh memorial cricket tournament.

Air India captain Shafiq Khan opted to field first and the move paid dividends as opening bowler Abid Khan had the Sonnet top-order in all sorts of trouble. He finished with figures of 4 for 21. But Sumit Sharma, who made an unbeaten 74,and half-century by Yashpal Singh (64) combined to do the recovery job for Sonnet, guiding the team to 176.

In reply,Air India lost both their openers early, but the team’s middle-order held its own against a fired-up bowling attack led by Sumit Sharma (2/41). They will now face either Gush Cricket Club or Collage Sports, who play the other semi-final on Thursday.

Brief scores: SCC 176 all out in 37.5 overs (Sumit Sharma 76 n.o.,Yashpal Singh 65; Abid Khan 4/21,Ajit Chandela 2/26); Air India 179 for 7 in 35.1 overs (Manvinder Bisla 44,Naman Sharma 34,Deepak Joon 36 n.o.; Sumit Sharma 2/17,Vikas Singh 2/41)
