After week-long disruption,e-governance portal is back
A dispute over payment between Tech Mahindra, which runs the e-governance website, and the civic agencies, led to week-long disruption of online services.
For the past seven days, those who went to the civic agencies’ e-governance website to register for a birth or death certificate, book a community hall or use other services were faced with a non-functional website.
A dispute over payment between Tech Mahindra, which runs the e-governance website, and the civic agencies, led to week-long disruption of online services. This was resolved after the civic agencies approached the High Court on Friday.
Taking note of the “larger public interest” involved in the functioning of web services, the High Court ordered the company to resume services from Friday evening.
It also directed civic agencies to pay Rs 13 crore to the company within 24 hours and to submit Rs 27 crore with the High Court registry by next week.
Tech Mahindra had stopped services on October 25,claiming that the civic agencies had accrued dues amounting to Rs 116 crore.
The court also restrained Tech Mahindra from disrupting services while the case is being heard.
North corporation spokesperson Yogendra Mann told Newsline,“We had given (Tech Mahindra) a cheque for Rs 13 crore, but it raised issue of payment to Wipro… The company approached the court for arbitration without informing us.”
The company has claimed that the civic agencies had raised “unnecessary” issues to stop payment.
