After brawl outside embassy,2 Meghalaya constables removed
Two Meghalaya policemen,deputed at the Israel Embassy in the Capital a few months ago,were removed from their posts after they picked up a fight with each other over a personal issue about a month ago.
Two Meghalaya policemen,deputed at the Israel Embassy in the Capital a few months ago,were removed from their posts after they picked up a fight with each other over a personal issue about a month ago.
According to police sources,the incident occurred on December 11. The two constables,B G Momin and B Raba,both deputed at the Israel Embassy in the Chanakyapuri area of South Delhi,started fighting with each other over a personal matter. “They came to blows and hit each other quite hard. Both sustained injuries by the time other security personnel could intervene,” the police sources said.
The police said the matter was reported to senior Delhi Police officers,who wrote a letter to their Meghalaya counterparts,seeking action against the constables.
The letter,which was sent to the Meghalaya police,stated that the constables’ fight was due to a personal dispute and strict disciplinary action needed to be taken against them to prevent a similar incident in the future. The letter was sent by the security wing of the Delhi Police a few days after the incident came to light.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Security) M K Meena said,“Both constables have been replaced and we have written to the Commandant in Meghalaya to take disciplinary action against the two.”
Police sources said that though there was no damage to property owned by the Israel Embassy or injury caused to any officials working there,the police removed Momin and Raba as they did not want the same to happen again. “The embassy is an important place,with diplomats visiting regularly. To thwart an untoward incident caused by these employees in a fit of rage,the two were immediately replaced.” Police sources said the decision was taken in coordination with Embassy officials.
