The Delhi Police have arrested an interstate gangster Ram Naresh Sahni known by the nickname ‘Ravan of Sahebganj’, who has been on the run for 19 years, in connection with a 2005 murder case, officials said on Tuesday.
Based on a tipoff, the Crime Branch team nabbed the dreaded criminal, who is wanted in several drug and murder cases, from Bihar’s Muzaffarpur on January 5.
In 2005, Sahini and two associates shot dead a person named Kumod on the day of Dussehra in Surat, Gujarat. Since then he has been on the run.
According to the Delhi Police, Sahani runs an illegal liquor mafia with over 50 gang members in north Bihar, terrorising people in the area so that they hesitate to give any information about him to the police.
“Whenever the police intensify search for him, he flees to Nepal and returns to Bihar after some months,” said an officer.
Sahini aka ‘Ravan of Sahebganj’is an accused in several attempt-to-murder cases, Arms Act, cheating and Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) cases in Bihar, said Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sanjay Bhatia.
