A 19-year-old Afghan national was allegedly molested and assaulted by three men in South Delhi’s Saket on Saturday night.
Preliminary investigations have revealed the accused also thrashed the woman’s fiance when he objected.
The incident occurred near Select City Walk mall. The accused, all natives of Afghanistan, were arrested from the spot, police said. “After registering a case, we arrested the accused identified as Salim, Gul Rehman and Hajeebullah, all residents of Hauz Rani area,” additional DCP (South) P S Kushwah said.
Police said the woman stays in London and came to Delhi on vacation on February 17.
“She told police that she was staying at a hotel in Paharganj area. Around 8 pm on Saturday, she along with her younger brother and fiance had gone to the mall to celebrate Afghanistan’s New Year,” a police officer said.
“After the function, she and her fiance were heading towards their hotel in Paharganj when the incident occurred. Around 11 pm, they were waiting for an auto-rickshaw when the accused allegedly passed lewd comments at them. The accused were allegedly inebriated,” the officer said.
The victim alleged the accused molested her and, when her fiance objected, they abused and thrashed him. “The victims managed to raise alarm. Passersby made a call to the police control room (PCR). Police rushed to the spot and took the victims to a hospital. On the basis of the victims’ statement, a case was registered under sections of the Indian Penal Code at Saket police station,” the officer added.
In March last year, two foreign nationals were allegedly molested by a group of eight in Saket. The victims were heading to Select City Walk. One of the victims was from Germany and the other was from South Africa.
