Award-winning Bollywood actor and director Nandita Das approached a city court on Saturday seeking divorce from her husband,Saumya Sen,a Kolkata-based advertising professional.
Looking to get the six-year-old marriage annulled by a decree of divorce,Das and Sen appeared before Additional District Judge Rajrani Mitra with their petition, legally known as the the First Motion Petition for Mutual Consent Divorce.
The court admitted their petition and recorded their statement, contending that they had been living separately for more than a year now and wanted a divorce under Section 13B (divorce by mutual consent) under the Hindu Marriage Act. Their petition that cited irreconcilable differences between the two was supported by affidavits.
When contacted,Dass counsel Tridip Pais refused to comment on the matter.
Das recently made her debut as a director with Firaaq,a movie on Gujarat riots which won a number of national and international awards.
According to Bollywood magazines,Das had separated from Sen in 2006. Sen and Das were married at a simple,low-profile ceremony in Delhi on December 22,2002.
