A Delhi court has observed that the crime team of Delhi Police should raise its level to outsmart criminals and acquire the requisite skills to lift fingerprints at crime scenes.
ASJ Manoj Jain has rapped the police for not being able to obtain fingerprints of requisite quality from a crime scene, where two robbers were apprehended.
“Investigation conducted by the crime team is not up to the mark… Their job is a specialised one. It is really painful that even in a case of present nature — where the accused were apprehended instantly and were not wearing gloves — the crime team was not able to get prints of requisite quality,” the judge said.
The court observed that the working style of the crime team needs to be monitored by superiors. It also said that there is urgent need for technological upgradation to outsmart criminals.
The observations were made during the hearing of an appeal by Shiv Kumar and Sanjay Kumar against their conviction for the offence of house-breaking and sentence of seven years imprisonment awarded by a trial court.
The judge modified the sentence to five years.
