A 22-year-old woman,who had rejected the advances of her husbands former colleague,was attacked with acid on Friday morning and was admitted to a hospital in Ghaziabad with serious injuries. The incident was reported from a point near Crossings Republik in Vijay Nagar,Ghaziabad around 7 am.
Ghaziabad SP (City) S S Yadav said the accused,Lakhan (23),came on a motorcycle with one of his friends and threw acid on the woman while she was on her way to work. The woman,who suffered 15-20 per cent burns,works as a domestic help in Crossings Republik,police said. She was rushed to the district hospital. Her condition is said to be stable,police said.
Her husband said that Lakhan,a gas cylinder supplier,used to work with him two years ago. He often used to visit their house to play with their children. It was then that he proposed marriage to his wife,he said.
The woman said that she had turned down the proposal saying that she was a mother of two children. He knew what time she left for work and when she returned. This morning,he followed her till Crossings Republik and when he saw her walking alone on the stretch,he threw acid on her face and fled, police said.
