While the Delhi University colleges are busy preparing their hostels for the Games,students have been rendered homeless. Newsline takes a look at the accommodation crisis gripping DU students at present.

DU colleges-— 75

Applications received by DU this year — 1.8 lakh

Total number of seats — 54,000

Percentage of seats occupied by outstation students — 15 per cent

Cost of renovating college hostels before the Games — Rs 63 lakh

No of rooms being allotted for Games — 2,000

Biggest hostel in DU — St Stephens,with 380 seats,190 each for boys and girls

Of the seven co-ed colleges in DU that provide hostel facilities,only four have on-campus residential facility for girls.

Cost of PGs range between Rs 4,000 to Rs 20,000 per month.

Hostel fees ranges between Rs 10,000 and 45,000 per year
