The AAP organised a cycle rally on Saturday to demand justice for the victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. Led by H S Phoolka and the Shiromani Akali Dal Welfare Society, the rally was flagged off from Tilak Nagar.
Attended by the AAP’s Sikh MLAs, including Jarnail Singh, Jagdeep Singh, Avtar Singh and H S Khalsa, 250-odd people from the community cycled 31 km till Jantar Mantar. “I lost my father in the riots… it has been 31 years since we have been demanding justice. We want people to trust our government and the judicial system… so we request them to deliver justice,” Hari Nagar MLA Jagdeep Singh said.
A memorandum will be presented to PM Narendra Modi, listing the demands. “Our demands from the government are — filing of chargesheet against Sajjan Kumar and reopening of 237 cases in which clean chit has been issued,” Phoolka said.
Other demands include reopening the case against Jagdish Tytler, who has been given a clean chit by the CBI, and to conclude all cases related to the riots within six months. Uday Bhan Singh came all the way from Ludhiana to take part in the rally. “I will feel happy if the government delivers justice,” he said.
