AAP MLA from Deoli, Prakash Jarwal, was arrested on Friday on charges of assaulting a Delhi Jal Board (DJB) junior engineer on Thursday.
According to police, Jarwal has been booked under IPC sections relating to voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty; obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions and assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty.
The DJB in its complaint said a junior engineer was beaten up by the MLA and his supporters on Thursday. According to a statement issued by the DJB, the incident took place around 10 am, when the engineer was supervising the installation of a tubewell in Sangam Vihar area.
Stating that the MLA had been informed about the work, the statement read, “The MLA came with his cronies and objected to the commencement of work before he had inaugurated it.”
“The MLA misbehaved with and manhandled DJB JE Arun Kumar. He also slapped the DJB official, breaking his spectacles. The MLA and his associates insisted that no work be initiated unless it was formally inaugurated by the MLA.”
Jarwal, however, had denied the allegations and maintained that the residents of the area had called him because the DJB workers had been demanding money for installing the tube-well. “When I reached there, the official said he will not continue with the installation of the tubewell,” he had said on Thursday.
