The AAP Friday accused the Centre of turning the Nirbhaya Fund into a joke and said it is in the process of acquiring CCTV cameras for the capital in an effort to increase the safety of women in the capital.

Chandni Chowk MLA Alka Lamba said, “There has been only lip service on the Nirbhaya fund by the Centre. The country has seen a 28.7 per cent rise in rapes. The Modi government had promised there would be a one-stop centre for women in each district but it has managed to set up such centres only in 14 out of 653 districts…”

Meanwhile, AAP Delhi convenor Dilip Pandey said the government had found it expensive to procure the CCTV cameras from the empanelled agency, Electrical Corporation of India Ltd. “… We hope to get new CCTV cameras at several places across the city by the year-end,” he said.
