Allegations and counter-allegations over an alleged bid to stall the AAP government’s flagship power subsidy scheme continued to fly thick and fast between the former and the Bharatiya Janata Party Friday.

Renewing her attack on the BJP and Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena over the issue following a meeting with advocates practising in the city, Power Minister Atishi claimed that the BJP and Saxena were “conspiring day and night against the elected government and the people of Delhi”.

The BJP, meanwhile, announced it would stage a protest outside Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence demanding Atishi’s resignation over her “white lies” on the issue.

“Now they are plotting to stop the power subsidy that is provided to the advocates of Delhi, but I assure the advocates of Delhi that as long as Kejriwal government is in power, no matter how many conspiracies are hatched, we will not let the power subsidy stop,” she said.

Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Ramvir Singh Bidhuri accused Atishi of misleading citizens over the issue and produced purported electricity bills ostensibly in the name of city farmers at a press conference in a bid to prove that “not even a single unit of free electricity” was being provided to them.

“One of these bills is for more than Rs 1.21 lakh and the total consumption is 4,737 units…more than Rs 25 per unit is being charged to farmers. Farmers are being looted in the name of fixed charges because many times in a year they do not use electricity for irrigation, but electricity bills of thousands of rupees are sent,” the LOP alleged.

Bidhuri announced the BJP would, with a delegation of city farmers, protest outside Kejriwal’s residence on Saturday seeking Atishi resignation as she had “no moral right to continue in her post”.
