When actress and TV anchor Mini Mathur attended the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations this year at Salman Khans residence, she had no inkling that the day would have a lot more in store. Salmans sister Alvira Agnihotri, who likes the saris I wear, took me aside and insisted that I roll out an entire line of saris. She wanted them ready by October end,in time for the launch of her multi-designer store Ahakzai, recollects Mathur, who has no professional training in designing saris.
Within a span of two weeks,I travelled to Delhi and Kolkata, getting in touch with my personal network of tailors. I then put together a range of 15 saris and even assembled a whole look around them complete with stitched blouses and batuas, says Mathur.
The idea was to offer a fun dressing alternative, says Mathur who opted for raw silk, thin tussar and phulia cotton. She plans to take up this profession more seriously. I hope to launch a line on a portal and design a line of accessories sometime next year, she reveals.
