7 former officials among 11 convicted in cooperative housing society fraud case

A Delhi Special Court has convicted seven government officials and four others in one of the cases registered in the Rs 4,000-crore cooperative group housing societies scheme scandal.

A Delhi Special Court has convicted seven government officials and four others in one of the cases registered in the Rs 4,000-crore cooperative group housing societies scheme scandal.

Special CBI Judge Vinod Kumar convicted 11 in the Rangmahal Cooperative Group Housing Society case,the chargesheet for which was registered in 2005 along with over 65 other such cases.

Former Registrar of Cooperative Societies Narayan Diwakar,former Joint Registrar Jasbeer Singh,former Assistant Registrar (Audit) Jitender Sharma, former Assistant Registrar Ramesh Chandra,former Dealing Assistant Rakesh Kumar and former Inspector RCS Faiz Mohd and one P K Thirvani were the seven government officials convicted.

They have been held guilty of cheating,forgery,and criminal conspiracy under the Indian Penal Code and under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Others convicted were Sushil Kumar Sharma,Sri Chand,Anna Wankhede and Mohan Lal,who were involved in the land scandal. They have been held guilty of cheating,forgery and criminal conspiracy.

The convicted persons had fraudulently allotted plot for the Rangmahal CGHS in Pitampura in Northwest Delhi.

CBI prosecutor A P Singh had told the court that the convicts had connived with each other and fraudulently revived the defunct housing societies lying dormant for over two decades on the basis of forged and false documents.

The conspiracy also included misrepresentation of facts and documents before the Delhi Development Authority to induce it to allot huge plots of land on subsidised rates to the society.

The court will hear arguments regarding quantum of sentence on Thursday.
