A 50-year-old man has been arrested from Madhya Pradesh for allegedly raping a 3-year-old girl in Gurgaon, police said. The accused, identified as Ratan who hails from Balihari in Madhya Pradesh, had previously served a 10-year sentence for raping a 5-year-old girl, officials added. He was wanted in two other rape cases.
Police said they have contacted other state police for information on unsolved cases.
The case was registered at a police station in Gurgaon on April 26 after a woman lodged a complaint that she and her husband worked as labourers.
The accused had come to the site where they worked. He slept outside their room the previous night.
“When the woman woke up in the night, her 3-year-old daughter was not in the room, and the person was also not outside. They searched for the girl but couldn’t find her. On the morning of April 26, their daughter was found unconscious about 300 meters away from their room with injury marks on her body. A case was registered under relevant sections of the POCSO Act,” said police spokesperson ASI Sandeep.
ACP (Crime) Varun Dahiya said that the only thing they knew about the accused was that his name was Ratan and they started working on it.
Declaring a Rs 50,000 reward, police conducted raids in Gurgaon, Delhi, Jhansi, Pune, and Ratlam. The accused was arrested from Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh. During the interrogation, he allegedly said that he raped the three-year-old girl after her parents had fallen asleep. “The accused also revealed that in March, he had committed a similar crime by sexually assaulting a six-year-old boy in Madhya Pradesh. He was also wanted in that case. It was learned that after committing a crime, the accused would move to another city to evade the police, do labour work for a few days, and look for another minor child to assault before moving to another location again,” the ACP said.
Dahiya further said that the accused’s criminal record showed that he had served a 10-year sentence for raping a five-year-old girl from his village. The accused was released from jail in 2015.
