The crime branch has arrested three autlolifters and recovered 11 luxury cars from them.

The three, identified as Mohammed Ilyad,Rajbir and Nadeem, were arrested from the main road near the Cross River Mall in Anand Vihar,East Delhi.

Police said the trio had adopted a unique modus operandi, whereby which they were procuring ‘total loss vehicles’ from insurance companies. Once they had procured the vehicle along with its original papers, they would then steal vehicles of the same model and make.

Ravindra Yadav,Additional Commissisoner of Police(Crime) said,“Nadeem would purchase the ‘total loss vehicles’ from the insurance companies along with the papers. Rajbeer dismantled the purchased vehicles in his scrap shop at Maya Puri but kept back the registration papers instead of depositing it to the Transport Authority, which is mandatory. They would then steal vehicles of the same make and change the chassis and engine number to match that on the registration papers of the total loss vehicles,to pass it off as genuine.”
