A 19-year-old fashion designing student was raped, allegedly by her uncle, at the Gymkhana Club in the capital, police said.

The victim, in her statement to police on February 19, claimed that the incident took place at one of the cottages inside the club on February 14.

The girl, a fashion designing student of a private institute in West Delhi, said she had been invited to the club by her uncle.
According to her statement to police, on February 14, her uncle, a professional photographer based in Lucknow, had come to Delhi for some work and asked her to join him for dinner at the Gymkhana Club. Police said he was a member of the Lucknow Gymkhana Club and, hence, had entry to the Gymkhana Club in Delhi.

After dinner, the uncle allegedly took the girl to a cottage on the club premises which he had booked and allegedly raped her.
The girl told police that the incident had left her traumatised. She claimed her uncle had also threatened her against revealing about the incident to anyone. She said she was able to approach police only on February 19. A medical examination of the girl has confirmed rape, police said. Investigating officers have collected the clothes she was wearing at the time of the incident.

Police said a case of rape has been registered at the Chanakyapuri police station. The accused is yet to be arrested.
Police said that several teams had been formed to nab him. “The man fled to Uttar Pradesh after the incident. We have also registered a case of criminal intimidation as he had threatened the girl after raping her. He lives in the Aliganj area of Lucknow. One of our teams is there. He will be arrested soon,” a senior police officer said.

Joint Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) M K Meena confirmed that police had registered a case and were on the look-out for the accused.
