A 17-year-old girl was assaulted and thrown off the roof of her residence, allegedly by men who had harassed her in the past, in Mathura on Monday night.
According to police, the family has accused three local residents, Dileep, Kaushal and Avanish, of the crime. Police said the men allegedly entered the girl’s home around 9 pm, forcibly took her to the second floor, and threw her off the terrace after assaulting her.
The girl was taken to a local hospital, and later referred to a larger facility in Mathura, police said, adding that she is stable.
“We received a complaint from the parents that some people made an attempt on her life. An FIR has been filed for attempt to murder and other relevant sections. Two persons have been arrested and the rest will also be apprehended soon. Further investigation is pending,” said Shrish Chandra, SP Rural Mathura.
Police said the accused have private jobs, and investigators are in the process of obtaining their call detail records as part of their probe.
CCTV footage of the incident has also surfaced, which purportedly shows the girl falling to the ground and locals rushing to her aid.
One of the accused can also be seen walking in the footage. “We have seized the DVR to see the entire clip and track their movement,” said Chandra.
IPC sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 354 (outraging modesty of a woman) have been invoked against the men.
