While mystery still shrouds the discovery of a bag of mortar shells near the New Delhi railway station on Monday, the Delhi Police were kept on their toes today morning, with ‘live’ cartridges found in Rajinder Nagar area of Central Delhi.

Police sources said they received a call about the ammunition about 11.30 am on Tuesday. The police team found thirteen rounds of a .12 bore gun on a belt found at the side of the main Ridge Road in Rajinder Nagar area.

“We got a PCR call from a passerby. A bomb disposal squad and a dog squad were sent to the spot and the rounds were analysed by experts,” the police said.

Investigating officers said the cartridges have been seized and a case has been registered under the Arms Act at the Rajinder Nagar police station.

“From initial investigations,we suspect the cartridges belong to a security guard. With Republic Day round the corner, however, this is a matter of prime concern. We will probe the matter from all possible angles,” the police officer said.

This recovery comes hours after a bag of mortar shells were recovered near the New Delhi railway station on Monday evening.

On November 3 last year, seven live pistol cartridges were recovered inside a bathroom two hours before a India-Australia one-day cricket match at the Ferozeshah Kotla grounds.
