The Delhi crime branch police arrested four persons including a woman for allegedly trafficking children from Jharkhand to the Capital. Thirteen minors, including 12 girls and a boy, were rescued with the help of Shakti Vahini,an NGO on whose complaint investigations into the matter began.
The police are investigating whether the traffickers had an intention to make the children work as domestic helps in Delhi and NCR or whether they were to be forced into the flesh trade. Police received a complaint from the NGO on Friday evening that children who were being trafficked from Jharkhand to Delhi would arrive by the Jharkhand Sampark Kranti Express train.
We deployed our teams at the New Delhi Railway Station. The train reached around 9.30 pm and the children were identified and rescued, said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) P S Kushwaha. Police then arrested four persons who allegedly lured the children to the Capital.
The accused Sunita Devi,25,Manish Munda,25,Sanjay Bah,30 and Munna Munda,35 are all natives of Jharkhand. We are verifying their antecedents with the local police, said Kushwaha.
The children have been sent to child shelters, police said. At present, the children are not in a position to tell us why they were brought to Delhi, said a senior police officer, adding that police was contacting their parents. We are yet to ascertain whether or not the parents were aware that their children were being brought to Delhi, said the officer.
