A 10-year-old boy was allegedly beaten to death by his uncle,Kalimullah,on Saturday evening in Bharat Nagar,Northwest Delhi.
According to police,Kalimullahs brother and accomplices tried cremating the body before the police could be informed. The accused are on the run and police are looking for them.
The victim,Moin Khan alias Chottu,had come to Delhi recently to live with his uncles family in Bharat Nagar JJ cluster. The family,from Madhubani in Bihar,is in the business of making bindis.
Police are yet to ascertain the motive of crime.
The police control room received a call at 6.30 pm on Saturday. The caller informed us that the child was murdered and that the family of the accused were taking the body to a nearby cremation ground. A team of officers reached the spot. The body is now at a mortuary and Kalimullahs brother has been picked up for questioning, said a senior police officer of the investigation team.
Prima facie,police said,it appears the child was beaten with a blunt object as his body bore several external injury marks.
The childs family has been informed. His father is coming from Mumbai,and his mother and elder brother are on their way from Bihar. Only after they identify the body and give their consent for a post-mortem,will we be able to ascertain the how the victim was murdered, said the officer.
He added that teams have been sent to Bihar as they suspect Kalimullah may be hiding there.
A case under IPC sections and the Juvenile Justice Act has been registered. Investigations are underway, said Meenu Choudhary,Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest).
