A 10-year-old boy, who went missing two days ago, was found dead inside a sewer situated in a park in Outer Delhi’s Samaypur Badli area on Saturday morning. After the body was discovered, residents protested outside Samaypur Badli police station alleging that police did not try to look for the boy even though the family had lodged a missing person complaint.
Police said the boy, Abhishek, had gone missing two days ago while playing in the same park. Police are now questioning family members to ascertain whether anyone had a grudge against them as they suspect the involvement of an insider.
“The incident came to light on Saturday morning when some children playing in the park spotted a body floating in the sewer. They screamed and informed their parents who in turn made a call to the PCR,” a police officer said.
After receiving the PCR call, local police rushed to the spot. The body was taken to the nearby hospital and then sent for an autopsy.
“On April 30, Abhishek was playing in the park outside his house when he went missing. After searching for hours, his parents lodged a missing person complaint,” the officer said.
Police have now added sections of murder to the existing missing person FIR.
Police are looking to see if it was an accident as residents have alleged that the sewer has been without a cover for over a month. Despite several complaints to the local administration no action was taken, they alleged. Police said Abhishek was a class V student in a government school. His father, Naval Kishore Shah, is a native of Bihar. The family lives in a JJ cluster in Samaypur Badli.
