The Surat police rescued a 19-year-old orphan girl on Monday,who was sold to a couple in Kamrej three years ago by a pimp from Mumbai. The victim was rescued from the couple who had allegedly forced her into flesh trade,police said.
Acting on a tip-off,police raided a house in Sugam society at Kholwad in Surat and rescued the girl. The victim disclosed that the couple forced her into flesh trade and physically tortured her. Acting on the details given by the girl,police registered a complaint of human trafficking and rape against eight persons,including a bank manager.
Three years ago,Chandani sold her to the Kamrej couple. A month ago,the couple took one lakh rupee from one Rajesh Patel,a resident of Amroli in Surat city,and got the girl married to him. But a week ago,Rajesh abandoned the girl,leaving her with the couple in Kamrej. According to the victims statements,she was again forced into sex trade by the couple.
The girl,in her statement to police,said she stayed at her uncles house in Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh. Her parents had died when she was very young. She had studied up to Class 7 in a Hindi-medium school. A youth,identified as Sonu,from her neighbourhood took her to Mumbai and sold her in a brothel run by a woman named Chandni in 2005. Three years ago,Chandni sold the girl to a couple,identified as Pooja Gupta and her Vinod Gupta.
Deputy Suprintendent of Police Hetal Patel said,We are confused about the the seven-month-old girl whom both the victim and the couple claim as their daughter. We have sent the DNA samples of all the four to the Surat Forensic Science Laboratory for a test. We will send the girl to Women Protection home at Ghoddod road in Surat. We have also contacted Uttar Pradesh police to find out her relatives.
