A 28-year-old woman and her brother-in-law committed suicide on Sunday night by jumping in front of a train in the Ramgarh area of Dadri in Greater Noida, police said.

Police officers said preliminary investigation suggest that the woman and her 25-year-old brother-in-law had an “illicit relationship” and ended their lives when the other members of the family found out about it.

The bodies were found near the railway crossing in Ramgarh village, the officers said.

“Prima facie it seems that they jumped in front of the train during the night. Their bodies were spotted in the morning. More details will emerge once the post-mortem examination reports come out on Tuesday,” one of the officers said.

Police, quoting family sources, said the woman, her husband and his brother had a long argument on Sunday night.

“The man confronted his brother about the relationship, following which there was an argument. Later at night, the woman and her brother-in-law slipped out of the house. They possibly went to the tracks and jumped in front of a train,” an officer said.

“There has been fights in the family over the past two months. Probably, the rest of the family suspected or found out about the illicit relationship quite some time ago ,” the officer said. Police said she was the man’s second wife.
