Ex-corporator from Maharashtra booked for cheating and raping Marathi actress

Victim has also accused the politician of marrying her even though he was already married.

Siddharth Banthia (35),a former corporator from Panvel who has been booked by Dattawadi Police for cheating and raping a city-based Marathi actor,has filed an anticipatory bail application in the district and sessions court at Shivajinagar.

The Dattawadi police on Wednesday had booked the Panvel-based politician for allegedly raping a Marathi actress. She had accused him of marrying her even though he was already married. The case was transferred to the crime branch’s women’s grievance redressal cell. The actress has alleged that the Banthia prepared fake documents to show he had divorced his first wife. She has alleged that he duped her of Rs 6 lakh with the promise of buying a flat from the state government quota for the artistes.

The application is scheduled to come up for hearing on Saturday. The Dattawadi police station registered an FIR for cheating,rape and forgery against Banthia on July 3 after the 35-year-old actress lodged a complaint against him.

Police said the actress came in contact with Banthia through a common friend. He convinced her that he had good contacts in Mantralaya and offered to get her a flat from the artiste quota. Later he started meeting her frequently and also visited her while she was on the sets. He proposed to her and they got married on July 23,2010.
