The fear of getting caught after he had crushed a cyclist under the wheels of his truck,cost a 25-year-old his life on Saturday near the Okhla flyover. The truck driver,Vishnu, was on his way to Faridabad when he ran over a cyclist. Fearing arrest,Vishnu decided to speed off but rammed into a container truck moving ahead of him.
Police said the truck was loaded with construction material. “The driver must have panicked,and in a bid to flee the spot,he accelerated and crashed into a container ahead of his truck. The damage to the vehicle was such that we had to use gas cutters to pull out Vishnu’s body from the truck,” a senior police officer said. The driver was declared “dead on arrival” in AIIMS.
“Fire brigade also reached the spot,as we thought that we might need gas cutters. Excessive blood loss was the cause of death,” a police officer said.Police also found the cyclist’s body a few metres away. He was identified as Vijendra (28),a factory worker. “Vijendra was returning home. He was found lying in a pool of blood,” the officer said. A case has been registered.
