EXACTLY 16 days after the sensational murder of senior journalist K J Singh and his mother Gurcharan Kaur, the district police have identified a possible suspect in the case, sources said. After studying CCTV footage obtained from several cameras in the area, the police have zeroed in on a young man wearing an orange turban seen repeatedly around K J’s house in Phase 3B2 during daylight hours for three days before the double murders. Investigators are hopeful of identifying the man soon, the sources said. They have a clear daytime image of the man. Chandigarh Newsline has learnt that the footage shows two other men as well but their images are not clear.
“The man seems to be in his mid-30s and he was wearing a turban, having a beard and seen speaking on his mobile phone. He was captured near the park adjoining K J’s house,” the sources said.
Police obtained the CCTV footage from many cameras installed at the market of Phase 3B2 behind K J’s house. Investigators studied and analysed hundreds of videos before finding the images of the three men occurring repeatedly.
“We found that these men were walking on the road outside K J’s house and then seeming to study the approaches to it and the routes out. We are quite certain that these are people of interest to the investigation,” said an official on condition of anonymity. SSP Kuldeep Singh Chahal declined to comment on the findings, and said the investigation was ongoing.
