Man arrested for biting off snake’s head in Nainital

A man was arrested after a video showing him biting off a snake’s head in Uttarakhand’s Nainital district went viral on social media. The accused has been identified as Kamlesh, 34, a resident of Nagina Colony in Nainital district.

The man was booked under the Wildlife (Protection) Act and sent to jail after a medical examination. The viral video is reported to have been filmed on May 18, when houses were being demolished under an anti-encroachment drive in Nagina Colony.

The accused was sitting at an ice cream stall when the snake came out of one such demolished house. In the video, the man can be seen holding the snake and biting off its head. The man then spat out the head after another person warned him that it might be poisonous. Others present at the spot asked him to leave the snake, but the reptile died soon after. The man then poured some cold drink on the bleeding headless snake and started chewing it. The man was apparently in an inebriated state when he committed the act.
