A parcel of land in Bangalore allegedly grabbed by a retired police officer was also central to the killing of a movie actor in 2008,probe into a complaint filed recently by a group of NRIs has revealed.
The investigation into the complaint that former IPS officer K C Ramamurthy, who wants to contest the Lok Sabha polls next year on a Congress ticket, usurped the land they bought from a realtor, has revealed that budding actor Vinod Kumar, who was shot at a party to celebrate a land deal on October 6,2008,was a witness to the signing of general power of attorney (GPA) papers for the land under scrutiny.
The alleged killer of Kumar,realtor-film producer Govardhan Murthy, was recently acquitted due to a mismatch between the weapon used for the shooting and the one seized by the police.
The documents presented before the 11th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) along with the land-grab complaint against Ramamurthy and members of his family show that the party at the Rose Heritage farmhouse of Murthy where Kumar was killed coincided with the signing of GPA documents for the over 14 acres of land claimed by the NRIs.
The NRIs have claimed they purchased the land in Athina Township developed by Joseph Chako,a realtor facing many cheating cases in Bangalore. They have alleged that Ramamurthy, who runs a number of educational institutions, his nephews K S Balasundar and K S Shankar Reddy and others grabbed it by registering forged GPA documents. The NRIs approached the ACMM after the Kothanur police refused to entertain their complaint.
Based on the court direction to investigate the matter, the police recently registered 12 FIRs in the case in which Ramamurthy is the third accused Balasundar and Shankar Reddy are the first and second.
A total of 24 people have been named accused in the FIRs.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (north-east) T R Suresh said they were collecting documents about the property from the accused and the complainants for further investigation. We will investigate all allegations once we get all documents, he said.
Suresh confirmed actor Kumar was murdered at a party held on the evening Shankar Reddy registered at the Gudibande sub-registrar office in Chikkaballapur district GPA documents for the controversial land the NRIs claim has been grabbed. He,however, denied any link between the land-grab case and the murder of Vinod Kumar.
In the complaint filed before the ACMM,NRI Stephen K Verghese has said Shankar was at the Gudibande sub-registrar office on October 6,2008. In a statement given to the Bagalur police on October 7,2008,in connection with the Vinod Kumar murder, copies of which have been attached with the complaint,Shankar says he went to Gudibande to register some properties on October 6.
Verghese has claimed in his complaint that the land-grab case is linked to the murder of Kumar, who was a witness to the 10 allegedly forged GPAs executed at the Gudibande sub-registrar office on October 6,2008. But police records show Shankar and friends were at the scene when Kumar was shot.
