Hospet MLA and former state minister Anand Singh,who was arrested at Bangalore International Airport by the CBI on October 17,has told the agency G Janardhan Reddy controlled the illegal mining operation in Bellary and that he was forced into illegal activities by the former BJP minister.
Anand Singhs companies S B Minerals and Vaishnavi Exports are among those accused of illegal excavation and export of iron ore during 2009-11. The companies allegedly exported nearly 1.31 lakh metric tonnes of ore through the Belekeri port.
A lease held by S B Minerals was used by a group linked to Reddy to access a dormant area to illegally excavate huge amounts of iron ore,CBI investigation has revealed.
Anand Singh was considered an integral part of the illegal mining operations in Bellary between 2008 and 2011 but did not figure in the CBI investigation earlier. He was executive director on the board of ILC Iron and Steel,a sister concern of ILC Industries owned by Bellary businessman ILC Somashekhar,who is a key accused in the Belekeri exports case.
Sources said Singh would be named an accused in at least two of the four FIRs registered by the CBI in the Belekeri case of export of over 50 lakh tonnes of iron ore worth Rs 2,500 crore between 2009 and 2011 it is probing on the orders of the Supreme Court.
Anand Singh was arrested as he returned from Singapore after the CBI issued an Interpol red corner notice for his detention. Singh had failed to appear before the agency despite a summons in September.
B Nagendra and T H Suresh Babu,both formerly of the BJP,and Satish Sail,formerly of the Congress,are the other MLAs arrested in the case.
