Gang of robbers using sex worker to lure victims held

The police claimed the accused engaged a sex worker to attract victims.

A gang of robbers that used a sex worker to lure victims has been arrested by the Malleswaram police.

The arrested are tantrik Narayan Reddy,44,of Gudahalli village in Chikkaballapur taluk and aides Devaraja Gowda,21,of Byatarayanapura,Kiran Kumar,25,of Bhuvaneshwari Nagar,Prabhakar alias Mani,23,of Vijayanagar and Sandeep,20,and Shivakumar,22,of Kurubarakunte near Devanahalli.

Reddy,who hails from Muddenahalli,allegedly also robbed his own house.

The police claimed the accused engaged a sex worker to attract victims. She would lure prospective customers on the streets while the accused hid nearby. They would pounce on anybody who stopped to make enquiries with the woman and rob them of valuables and vehicles.

A Bajaj Pulsar and two Tata Indicas stolen by the gang have been recovered by the police but the sex worker is still to be arrested.

Police interrogation of the accused revealed Reddy asked an accomplice to rob the residence of his father Venkata at Muddenahalli in Chikkaballapur rural police limits. The gang allegedly threatened Venkata and other members of the Reddy family about a month ago and fled with Rs 2 lakh and valuables.

The arrest of the gang had led to the seizure of vehicles,gold and jewels worth Rs 8.4 lakh,the police said.
