Doctor held for bribery

Doctor allegedly demanded a bribe and discharged Shivakumar without treatment when he refused.

A doctor at the quasi-government Sanjay Gandhi Accident Relief Hospital in Jayanagar 4th T Block was caught by the Lokayukta police Tuesday accepting Rs 7,000 in bribe from a patient for a minor neurosurgery.

The Lokayukta police said Shivakumar,a patient admitted at the hospital,consulted Dr Vishwanath and was told a minor operation would be necessary. The doctor allegedly demanded a bribe and discharged Shivakumar without treatment when he refused. After the patient approached the Lokayukta police,a trap was laid.

Shivakumar was asked to go to the hospital Tuesday and pay Rs 7,000 to the doctor in his room. Dr Vishwanath was arrested soon after and the bribe amount seized.
