DM orders probe into Meerut varsity clash

Two days after 65 Kashmiri students were suspended from a private university, the varsity administration has ordered an internal probe.

Two days after a clash broke out between Kashmiri students and others at a private university here for allegedly cheering for Pakistan during a cricket match against India at the ongoing Asia Cup, the varsity administration has ordered an internal probe and the Meerut DM has asked the Additional City Magistrate, Cantonment, to conduct a time-bound inquiry into the incident.

The Swami Vivekananda Subharti University had suspended 65 students for allegedly cheering for Pakistan during Sunday’s match. “Only a dozen students from the Valley were involved in the incident, but we had to suspend 65 students because they did not name the students responsible for the clash,” said vice-chancellor Manzoor Ahmed.
