Dalai Lama to stay in South this winter

The 14th Dalai Lama,Tenzin Gyatso,will not visit the hill town of Mcleodganj,Dharamsala,in Himachal Pradesh this winter.

The 14th Dalai Lama,Tenzin Gyatso,will not visit the hill town of Mcleodganj,Dharamsala,in Himachal Pradesh this winter. Instead,he will stay in south India and travel to New Delhi and eastern parts of the country before visiting Dharamsala by mid-February.

Thousands of tourists,mainly from North America,Southeast Asia and Europe,visit Dharamsala to listen to the Dalai Lama’s teachings.

Though the Dalai Lama’s private office and the Tibetan government-in-exile claimed he will be away from Dharamsala due to his hectic travel itinerary and pre-scheduled teachings in Karnataka’s Bylakuppe and other parts of the country,sources said the 78-year-old was reportedly trying to avoid the Himachal winter.

The Dalai Lama left his official palace and nearby Tsuglagkhang temple in Mcleodganj,Dharamsala,on Wednesday for New Delhi,where he addressed a conference on ‘The Nalanda Tradition of Buddhism in Asia’.

On November 17,he shall be participating in a dialogue with Japanese scientists on ‘Universe,Life and Education’.

The Dalai Lama will be abroad till November-end and on his return to India will go to Mundgod,Bylakuppe,in Karnataka to perform his spiritual and temporal duties.

Till mid-February,the Dalai Lama will be staying in Mysore at Namdroling Nyingmapa monastery,one of the largest Buddhist teaching centres in India.

From December till February,the Dalai Lama shall be delivering week-long teachings at Sera Monastery in Mysore and subsequently travel to Bangalore (Karnataka),Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu),Bhandara (Maharashtra),Guwahati (Assam) and Shillong (Meghalaya).

Tenzin Takla,Secretary,Dalai Lama’s private office,said,“His Holiness’ travel schedule is very hectic. He shall be travelling to various countries and on his return,across many states.”

The Dalai Lama’s security was increased soon after the July blasts in Bodh Gaya,Bihar.
