Brick falls on engineers head,kills him
Bangalore: A 26-year-old civil engineer working in the quality check department of a construction company was killed when a brick fell on him from the fourth floor of an under-construction apartment in Electronics City on Wednesday. Devendra Gowda was rushed to hospital where he succumbed to injuries. The Electronics City police said Gowda had been a civil engineer with Ajmera Developers for the past two years. He was appointed to supervise the project in Electronics City. He was at the site when a crane was moving a container of hollow bricks to the fourth floor. One brick slipped out and fell on his head. The police said Gowda was not wearing a helmet. They have registered a case of negligence against the company.
BMTC bus kills restaurant employee
Bangalore: A 40-year-old restaurant employee died after she was hit by a BMTC bus near Victoria Hospital on Thursday morning. Basamma of Deepanjali Nagar on Mysore Road was on her way to work when the bus coming from Basavanagudi knocked her down. The severely injured dish washer was rushed to Victoria Hospital,where she died.
Speeding truck kills youth
Bangalore: A 21-year-old fruit vendor was killed and his friend severely injured when a speeding truck hit their bike on MES Ring Road in Yeshwanthpur on Wednesday night. Shiva Kumar of Uttarahalli was riding the motorcycle,while Pramod was riding pillion. They were rushed to a nearby hospital,where Kumar was declared brought dead. The police said Pramod was out of danger. The Yeshwanthpur traffic police have seized the truck and arrested the driver.
Protest after dalit activist is killed in Madiwala
Bangalore: Business establishments in Madiwala were shut on Thursday after a member of a dalit organisation was killed by a group of four armed,drunk youths near his house in Siddharth Nagar on Wednesday night.
Construction worker Sundar (42) was stabbed after he tried to prevent an attack on his sister during a street play,for which power was being supplied from his house.
He was rushed to St Johns Hospital but succumbed to injuries around 3 am on Thursday.
The police said Sundar and family had organised a street play on Wednesday night. While the play was on,Dingri,Lal,Karadapudi Naga,Shashi and some others arrived at the scene. They said they wanted to dance and demanded that music be played.
Sundars sister R Selvi asked the youths to stop creating nuisance and go away. When they did not listen,she went home and switched off power. The drunk youths then abused Selvi and hurled stones at her.
When Sundar questioned them,he was pinned down and repeatedly stabbed,the police said,adding that the youths fled soon after.
Based on a complaint lodged by Sundars son Pratap,the Madiwala police have registered a case of murder and started a hunt for the accused youths.
Thursday,Siddharth Nagar residents protested the killing by closing shops and business establishments.
