Another life lost on airport road

One man dies in Derabassi

Another person lost his life on the airport road a little after Saturday midnight when an unknown vehicle hit his two-wheeler near Sohana. The victim was returning home after meeting his relatives who are living in Sector 78 which is located near the airport road. Police started an investigation after registering a case of rash driving against unidentified person. The victim was identified as Sanjay Goswami (35),a resident of Kajheri in Chandigarh. Goswami workes as a contractor for carrying out whitewash. He is survived by his wife and three children — two daughters and a son.

Goswami was killed near Gurudwara Singh Saheedan. Hardly 200 meters away from the same location, a Morinda resident was killed when his car hit a truck on the other side of the road last month.

The police officials of Sohana police station said that the accident occurred around 12.30 am on Sunday when an unknown vehicle hit the bike on which Goswami was traveling. Goswami fell on the ground and suffered serious head injuries. He was taken to the hospital after a passer-by noticed him lying in a pool of blood. Goswami was taken to the civil hospital in Phase 6 where the doctors declared him brought dead.

The airport road has become notorious for the road accidents. As many as 39 persons had lost lives on the road since it was opened for the general public in 2014. This is the fourth death on the road in the accidents in a span of one month.

In yet another accident which happemned in Derabassi, a 32-year-old man was killed and his friend injured in a road accident in Derabassi when an unidentified vehicle hit their bike.

The Derabassi police said that the victim was identified as Sripal, a resident of Phase 1, Mohali. Sripal and his friend Deepak were going to Mubarikpur early on Sunday morning on their bike. When they reached near Mubarikpur, an unidentified vehicle coming from the opposite direction hit them head-on. Sripal who was driving the bike suffered serious injuries while Deepak was also injured in the incident. Both were taken to Derabassi civil hospital but the doctors declared him brought dead. Deepak is still undergoing treatment.

Police started investigation after registering a case against unknown persons.
