Five garment factory workers were killed and at least 11, mostly women,injured when their mini collided with a truck and overturned near Attibele Saturday evening.
The workers were returning home to Tamil Nadu from Arvind Garment Factory when they met the accident at Yadavanahalli Gate,about 30 km from Bangalore,around 6 pm,SP,Bangalore Rural,B Ramesh said.
The police are yet to identify the victims as they are still rushing the injured to hospitals,Ramesh said. Three persons,including a woman died on the spot while two died on the way to hospital. At least two of the 11 injured are in a critical condition,the police said. There were a total of 16 passengers in the vehicle,Ramesh said.
The driver lost control as he was over speeding and rammed into the road divider,the police said. The vehicle jumped into the opposite lane,hit a truck carrying crushed stones and overturned.
Retired woman bureaucrat held for role in mining scam
The CBI Saturday arrested a retired IAS officer,who is now serving in the Karnataka Administrative Tribunal,in connection with an illegal mining scam. Shameem Bhanu,who retired in early 2012,has been accused of helping a private firm,Deccan Mining Syndicate,encroach on a National Mineral Development Corporation mining lease in the mid 2000s. The encroachment caused the NMDC losses to the tune of Rs 1,200 crore.
Bhanu was summoned to court Saturday. The court remanded her in judicial custody till September 21.
Man murdered by friends
A man was murdered by his friends in Rajagopalanagar Friday night. Venkatesh,32,a plumber,was stabbed to death near his house in Sathish Circle,the police said.
The main suspect Siddaraju had an extramarital affair with Venkateshs wife and the two got into an argument over this Thursday,the police said. The next day,Siddaraju and his friends Eshwar and Juttu called Venkatesh to Sathish Circle and stabbed him. The police are searching for them.
