Annamalai releases ‘DMK files’ on corruption, party vows legal action

Reacting to allegations, DMK leader R S Bharathi said Annamalai should produce evidences for all his allegations within 15 days. “We will take necessary legal steps to fight this baseless allegations,” he said

BJP’s Tamil Nadu chief K Annamalai on Friday released “DMK files”, a series on alleged corruption within the DMK government. The BJP leader alleged that DMK leaders’ assets were “worth Rs 1.34 lakh crore”, as per his valuations and estimations.

Reacting to the allegations, DMK leader R S Bharathi said Annamalai should produce evidence for all his allegations within 15 days. “We will be take necessary legal steps to fight these baseless allegations,” he said.

Annamalai also hinted that the AIADMK, a BJP ally which leads the Opposition alliance in Tamil Nadu, will also be not be spared in his “corruption expose”. Addressing a press conference, the BJP leader said, “DMK files will not end with a single part; every party that ruled the state will be exposed before 2024… If I am going to expose corruption, I will have to expose the corruption of everyone.”

Amid whistles and applause from BJP men, he presented allegations of corruption against DMK leaders and their immediate relatives and posed questions to the ruling party. Alleging irregularities and inconsistencies in assets, the state BJP chief named DMK leaders Jagatratchagan, E V Velu, K N Nehru, Kanimozhi, Kalanidhi Maran, T R Baalu, Kalanithi Veerasamy, Duraimurugan, Kathir Anand, Arcot Veersamy, Kalanidhi Veersamy and K Ponmudy, among others.

Annamalai raised questions about funding sources of minister Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Red Giant movies, links between Chief Minister M K Stalin’s son-in-law Sabareesan and George’s Bank director Srinivas Venkatesh in England, an MoU signed by Stalin with the Noble conglomerate, in which ministers Udhayanidhi Stalin and Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi were allegedly one-time directors.

Annamalai also accused CM Stalin of corruption in connection with the Metro Phase 1 tender, which happened during the 2006-11 DMK regime.

Sporting a badge featuring Dr B R Ambedkar, Annamalai also addressed recent allegations surrounding his Rafale watch, confessing that it was purchased for Rs 3 lakh from a person in Coimbatore in May 2021.
