Tamil Nadu rain: CM Stalin appeals to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh for more helicopters
In the letter, CM Stalin noted that the southern districts of Tamil Nadu have received unprecedented rainfall in the last two days.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has written to Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh requesting a maximum number of helicopters for the rescue and relief operations in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu.
In the letter, CM Stalin noted that the southern districts of Tamil Nadu have received unprecedented rainfall in the last two days.
According to the chief minister, as of now, four helicopters from the Air Force, two helicopters from Navy and two helicopters from Coast Guard are deployed for rescuing stranded people and dropping food items for the marooned.
“We have mobilised our officers, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams to undertake rescue and relief operations. Relief materials are being mobilised from all over Tamil Nadu. But these materials could not be distributed since the connecting roads have been inundated. They can be reached only through helicopters,” said CM Stalin.
He said some locations have received highest ever rainfall since 1871 and due to this, around 40 lakh people living in Tirunelveli and Tuticorin districts have been badly affected with the situation extremely serious in Srivaikuntam and Tuticorin towns, due to flooding in Thamirabarani river and adjoining areas.
“Given the enormity of the disaster and the large number of habitations to be covered, we need more helicopters for rescue and relief distribution. Hence, I request your urgent intervention to deploy the maximum number of helicopters immediately,” Stalin urged in his letter to Singh.
The state government has nominated special authorities for the distribution of food and the relief measures. Thoothukudi District Collector K Senthil Raj (7397770020) has been tasked as the co-ordination officer for carrying out the relief measures. The indoor sports facility at Thoothukudi will serve as the centre for distributing these items and three other officers have been posted to assist him.

Tirunelveli Corporation Commissioner Thakare Shubham Dnyandeorao (9442218000) has been given the charge of coordinating the activities in the district with the assistance of two other officials.
The volunteers who would like to contribute have been asked to contact the officials concerned.
