Tamil Nadu Coronavirus News July 15, 16 Highlights: The results for the class 12 exams were declared by the Directorate of Government Exams (DGE) today. Almost all of the over 7.99 lakh students who had appeared Tamil Nadu Plus Two Higher Secondary exams have cleared it.

The board announced that 92.3 % of students passed the Class XII exams this year. This is not only one per cent rise from 91.3 per cent last year but the highest ever pass percentage in the past five years.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu recorded 4496 positive cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the state tally to 1,51,820. Among these, Chennai reported 1291 positive cases, bringing the city’s total to 80,961.

Tamil Nadu recorded 68 deaths on Wednesday, putting the state toll at 2167. As of Wednesday, the number of active COVID-19 cases in Tamil Nadu is 47,340.

The state discharged 5000 patients following treatment Wednesday, putting the total number of discharged patients at 1,02,310.

7-year-old strangled to death by neighbour for asking him to change channel, 2 arrested

A seven-year-old girl has been brutally murdered in Tamil Nadu for asking her neighbour to switch on the television, police officials said on Wednesday. Officials said two people have been arrested in connection with the incident, which had sent shock waves across the state.

Nine-month old boy in Puducherry succumbs to COVID-19

In news from Puducherry, a nine-month old boy died of COVID-19 on Thursday, taking the toll to 22, while a single day high of 147 fresh cases pushed the overall tally to 1,743.

Puducherry Director of Health and Family Welfare S Mohan Kumar told reporters through video mode that the child was admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi Government Women and Child hospital with complaints of diarrhea yesterday and tested positive for the virus and died. The Health department has stepped up efforts to trace the source of infection for the baby.

The death of the child indicated that age not is a factor to reckon with for the patients falling victims to the dreaded infection, he said. The Health department Director appealed to people to adhere to safety norms so that the spread of the infection could be controlled.

The union territory recorded a single day high of 147 cases during the last 24 hours, of which 128 were in Puducherry, 12 in Karaikal and seven in Yanam region. The total number of coronavirus cases in Puducherry so far is 1,743 of whom 774 are active cases. Total patients recovered and discharged so far were 947 and fatalities were 22.

58 flights to fly between Chennai and major cities

A total of 56 flights will fly getween Chennai and major cities, with 28 departures and 28 arrivals scheduled at the Chennai International Airport today.

Tamil Nadu Class XII Results : 92.3 % of students have cleared the exams this year

The Tamil Nadu Education Board has released Class XII Board Examination results. The board announced that 92.3 % of students have passed the Class XII exams this year. A total of 7,79,717 students (including private candidates) took the exam in Tamil Nadu. Tiruppur district has recorded the highest pass percentage with 97.12%. It is followed by Erode with 96.99 per cent and Coimbatore with 96.39 per cent.

Six persons killed in accident near Tindivanam

Six persons, including a child were killed in a road accident near Pathiri, a village near Tindivanam after the Tata Sumo that they were travelling in plunged into a ditch. According to the police, the driver lost control of the car and plunged into the ditch, killing six of the eight members on board.

Two other children in the car were injured and were admitted to a hospital in Villupuram for treatment.

Coimbatore District Collector K Rajamani tests positive for Covid-19

Coimbatore District Collector K Rajamani has tested positive for Covid-19. He is undergoing treatment at KMCH hospital in the city. As per reports, he had a mild fever and sore throat since Monday. His test results on Tuesday night had confirmed that he has been infected by the disease.

Powercut in parts of Chennai today

Tangedco has announced a powercut in parts of Chennai today from 9 am to 2 pm. Here are the affected areas:

Nungambakkam SI is the fourth police personnel to succumb to COVID-19

Sub-Inspector Gurumoorthy (55) attached to Nungambakkam police station in Chennai, died of Covid-19 Tuesday after failing to respond to treatment at Omandurar Government Hospital.

He is the fourth officer in the state to succumb to the virus, following the deaths of S Balamurali, inspector at Mambalam police station, R Manimaran, a special sub-inspector at Pattinampakkam police station and M Nagarajan, a constable at the Vepery police station in Chennai.

TN records 4,526 COVID-19 cases; infection continues to surge in many districts

Tamil Nadu recorded 4,526 cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, taking the state’s overall tally to 1,47,324. Of the total cases, 1,078 were in Chennai, the city has reported 79,662 cases till date.

The infection continued to surge in other districts in the state. Madurai reported 450 cases, Thiruvallur recorded 360 fresh cases followed by Virudhunagar with 328. Chengalpattu reported 264 cases and Vellore 194.

Based on the request of the Chief Secretary of the Tamil Nadu government, Southern Railway has extended the suspension of seven special trains running within the state till July 31.

Full refund will be given to the passengers who had made advance reservations on these trains. Counter tickets can be refunded up to any time till six months from the date of the journey. However, MGR-Chennai Central- New Delhi- MGR Chennai Central Rajdhani Express will continue to operate.

Radio Jockey Suchitra, who was among the first ones to raise voice against the custodial deaths of a father-son duo in Sathankulam town in Tamil Nadu’s Thoothukudi district, has taken down the viral video, which garnered close to a million views on social media, after the CB-CID police warned her of legal actions.

In her video, Suchitra had narrated in vivid detail of how Sathankulam police officials tortured Jeyaraj (62) and Bennicks (32) inside the station. Soon after the video went viral, the issue was debated widely in national television channels.

The Tamil Nadu branch of CB-CID had asked the singer to take down her video, claiming that the incidents she narrated were “falsely exaggerated” and that they were “not backed up by any proof”.
