No prior permission required for screening of Ram Mandir event in private places: TN Police inform Madras HC

(PTI Photo) The Tamil Nadu Police on Monday informed the Madras High Court that bhajans, functions, annadanams, and similar practices conducted in private places do not require any permission from the police. Therefore, people can make arrangements for live streaming of the ‘Pran Pratishta’ ceremony at the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
The response came in reply to a writ petition filed by one L Ganapathy challenging the order passed by the assistant commissioner of police, Avadi, rejecting the permission sought to conduct bhajan and annadanam at a Kalyana Mandapam on January 22.
Justice J Anand Venkatesh of the Madras High Court noted that since many such functions are going to be held, the Court wanted to understand the stance of the government and the police on granting permission to such events.
