News channel booked by Chennai police for spreading ‘false’ news over death of migrant labourer

As per a statement issued by the police, on Monday, the X handle of the news channel posted a 48-second video in Hindi claiming that two migrant labourers were thrown out of a moving train by criminals in Chennai.

The Greater Chennai Police (GCP) has initiated a legal proceeding against a news channel for allegedly telecasting false news of migrant labourers being thrown out of a moving train in Chennai, the police said on Wednesday.

As per a statement issued by the police, on Monday, the X handle of the news channel posted a 48-second video in Hindi claiming that two migrant labourers were thrown out of a moving train by criminals in Chennai, leading to one casualty and injury to the other person.

The police said the news was also shared on their other social media accounts like Facebook and Youtube. The video also claimed that the coffin carrying the dead body of the migrant labourer was shifted from the Government Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital to Chennai Airport.
