MeT department predicts heavy rainfall in TN districts along Western Ghats

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has predicted heavy rainfall in the upcoming days across several districts along the Western Ghats in Tamil Nadu.

Addressing the media Tuesday, S Balachandran, deputy-director general of meteorology, RMC, Chennai said, “In terms of the Northeast monsoon in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal areas, there has been 43 per cent less than actual rainfall in October.”

On Tuesday, light to moderate rain at many places along with thunderstorms and lightning at one or two places is likely to occur in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal areas.

Heavy rainfall is expected at districts along the Western Ghats, including the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Tirupattur, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai and Virudhunagar districts.

On November 3 and 4, heavy rain is likely in places like the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Tirupattur, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Mayiladuthurai.

In Chennai and its neighbouring districts, for the next 24 hours, the sky is likely to be partly cloudy and light to moderate rain along with thunderstorms and lightning may affect some areas.
