Focus on education, health and storm-water drains in Chennai corporation budget

Rs 390 crore has been allocated for the bus route and roads department relaying the roads under the Singara Chennai 2.0 and the NSMT.

Students studying in classes from LKG to 12 in 419 primary, middle, high school and higher secondary schools in the city will receive two sets of uniforms at a cost of Rs 8.50 crore.

Considering the safety of the students, four CCTV cameras each to be installed in 255 schools at a cost of Rs 7.64 crore.

For the first time, a pair of shoes and two sets of socks will be provided to 64,022 students of classes LKG to 5 studying in 208 primary and 130 middle schools at a cost of Rs 3.59 crore.

Students of classes 9-12 to receive training in science, technology, engineering and mathematics at a cost of Rs 1 crore.

An exclusive gym for women, EmpowHER, will be set up at all 200 wards in the city at a cost of Rs 10 crore.

The allocation for the Chennai Mayor Special Development Fund has been increased from Rs 2 crore to Rs 3 crore.

The councillor ward improvement allocation has been increased to Rs 45 lakh from Rs 40 lakh.
