DMK workers burnt Tamil Nadu Culture Minister Ma Foi K Pandiarajan’s effigies and organised a rally in Chennai in protest against his remark that MK Stalin was not arrested under Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) during the Emergency.
Stalin also slammed the minister, saying the AIADMK leader has no knowledge about the history of Emergency. “Not just me, more than 1,000 DMK cadres were arrested under MISA during the Emergency period. In addition to the records available at MM Ismail Commission of inquiry into the excesses committed during the Emergency, there are documents available in the Prison Department, State Assembly, etc. People who can read or willing to read, can go through these documents and enlighten themselves,” Stalin said in a statement.
Appealing DMK workers to end the protest, Stalin said, “We will forgive and forget, that’s what our leaders Anna and Kalaignar have taught us.”
Nanjil Sampath, a former AIADMK supporter who has now shifted his base to DMK, said Pandiarajan doesn’t deserve to be a Tamil Nadu minister.
Speaking to Indianexpress.com, he said, “Being a minister, he should speak after knowing about the issue properly. Kalaignar acted against the center when he was the CM of the state. ‘Revoke Emergency, release national leaders’ was DMK’s demand. Stalin was targeted by the Central government. He was brutally attacked inside the jail. People who criticize our leader should first read MM Ismail Commission to understand the truth.”

Political analyst, Raveendran Duraisamy, said the minister’s remark was an unnecessary one with local body elections at stake. “PM Modi himself said that Kalaignar family was affected by MISA, is there anyone bigger than him to certify that DMK family was affected by the Indira Gandhi government? You cannot arrest a CM’s son just like that for some odd reason. It’s an unnecessary comment by the AIADMK Minister,” he added.
Sources close to AIADMK said that Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisamy had asked the AIADMK minister and other office bearers not to comment on this issue any further.
