The Greater Chennai Police (GCP) Commissioner Monday issued directions to the officials not to use mobile phones while on duty.

Following the directions of the Director General of Police (DGP), City Police Commissioner Sandeep Rai Rathore asked policemen especially traffic police personnel and policemen on bandobast duties during important events to avoid using mobile phones as it may lead them to lose concentration and delay their work.

“Policemen on VIP security, bandobast duty, security duty during temple and festival events, should not use mobile phones, the seniors should brief the junior ranked officials while allotting duty,” the City Police Commissioner said.

Further, he said traffic regulation and enforcement are very important as they require continuous monitoring of the officials for regulation of traffic rules, identifying the violators, accident prevention, etc.

“Any use of cell phones will be a distraction and traffic regulation may suffer and hence police officers should not use mobile phones while on duty,” Rathore added.

“During bandobast security duty protests, the officers ranked below the sub-inspectors should not be using mobile phones,” the statement read.

It was noted that all the top ranked officials need to ensure that the above instruction is communicated down the line and further they are instructed to paste the order on notice boards at all police stations and follow them stringently.
