The highest-single day ridership of 3,08,495 was recorded on July 28, the CMRL statement added. In the first seven months of 2023, 4.95 crore passengers travelled in the rapid transit system.
As per the data released by the CMRL, there has been a significant surge in the number of passengers using Metro services during peak hours in the morning and evening.
Officials said the increase in ridership was due to the hassle-free experience Chennai Metro provides. The CMRL offers a 20 per cent discount on Metro travel card and mobile QR Code ticketing (single, return, group tickets and QR trip passes).
