After being marked absent allegedly by the branch manager for reporting 10 minutes late to work, a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) bus driver attempted suicide at the Tambaram depot on Monday.
Bus driver Harimuthu attempted self-immolation at the depot after a verbal row with the branch manager, who had assigned his duties to another driver, eyewitnesses told indianexpress.com. TNSTC employees at the depot intervened and stopped him from carrying out the immolation bid, they said,
Harimuthu was taken to Chromepet Government Hospital for treatment after he had complained of irritation in his right eye.
An inquiry has been ordered by TNSTC into the incident, according to reports.
